Abby's Story
A certified nurse assistant, Abby cared daily for older
adults in their homes. Over the course of her 28 year career,
she often became an integral part of their families. Suddenly,
one evening in 2004, Abby was struck with a severe headache.
Rushed to the hospital with her daughters at her side, she
learned that her life was in grave danger from a brain aneurysm. In
an instant, her life turned upside down, as she dealt with
her fears about the need for exploratory surgery and how
her life would change after such an ordeal.
It was a blessing that Abby found a safe, secure place to recover—The Christian Health Center in downtown Louisville. After weeks of treatment, surrounded by the caring professionals at the Health Center, Abby moved into Christian Care’s Friendship House, Louisville’s assisted living community. Rather than give in to her fears about living with a medical condition she never anticipated, Abby has embraced a new lifestyle—meeting new friends, taking watercolor classes, and taking charge of managing the in-house boutique. She enjoys her independence within a secure, caring environment, and her daughters are grateful that their mother is happy.

In fact, Christian Care Communities is the oldest partner in ministry with the Christian Church/Church of Christ and Disciple of Christ (DOC) in Kentucky.
