2026 Chaplains Retreat

At Christian Care Communities the Spiritual Care Program has been the heart of who we are and what we do for over 140 years. Each year we focus on supporting our Chaplain during a two-day retreat. For the past several years retreats have been held at Shaker Village – a beautiful place with a rich history. Interestingly, Christian Church Widows’ and Orphans’ Home of Kentucky was led by Pastor William Broadhurst – our first chaplain. The first two children came to the home at 1013 East Jefferson Street, Louisville, KY from Mercer County. Grounded in a rich history of service and located in the beautiful historic Shaker Village, today’s chaplain team supported one another and had a time of renewal. , The team, led by Chaplain Renae Hester, discussed new programs and came together for a time of renewal and fellowship.

The retreat provided valuable opportunities to exchange ideas, celebrate successes, and discuss the challenges that accompany chaplaincy in our senior communities. Conversations centered on caring for elders and families, supporting staff, leading memorial services, navigating special occasions, and fostering meaningful connections throughout the year.

Just as impactful as the formal sessions was the fellowship that took place around them. Shared meals, strolls around Shaker Village’s walking paths, and an evening of laughter and ice cream created space for deeper friendships and genuine community.

This retreat serves as an annual reminder to both our chaplains and as well as our organization as a whole to take the extra time to step back and reflect. Our joy at Christian Care is to walk alongside seniors as they age, and to continue enhancing their journey of life. Thank you to our chaplains who make that mission possible.
