The Importance of How We Care

The Importance of How We Care

Care is an important component of the Faith – Care – Family approach to our mission at Christian Care Communities. An essential part of how we care is offering a wide variety of planned activities and events that cater to many interests and ability levels. At our Christian Health Center in Louisville, we offer opportunities for residents to engage socially, physically, mentally and spiritually. We know today’s older adults want fresh experiences, plenty of stimulation, and a chance to learn something new.

One of the biggest concerns that families face when making the decision to move a loved one into a senior living community is how to ensure they will be engaged and happy in their new home. Staying socially and physically engaged is of utmost importance to a senior’s mental and overall health. Research shows engagement and activities have the potential to benefit older adults in many ways:

  • Promote emotional connection and self-expression
  • Gain a feeling of accomplishment
  • Maintain motor skills
  • Minimize loneliness and depression

We care by providing an individualized, high quality, well thought out activities program to enhance the lives of our residents.   The health and well-being benefits of a good program are becoming more and more documented. We’ve moved past trying to fill time – instead, we want to enrich our residents’ lives!

Take a peek inside our activities program in our skilled nursing facility in the beautiful Historic District of Louisville. Diversity and inclusiveness matter, and we understand it is important to provide programs of interest for all residents.

Individualized Activities

We do individual assessments of residents to understand likes, dislikes and primary interests. This helps us plug them into activities, and drive what we offer to residents.

Art Therapy

Expressing creativity can help older adults in many ways, and we find art to be a relaxing activity that many enjoy. We paint, make cards and more, often while listening to music.

Exercise

We offer exercise for every ability and can adapt to any level of need. From walking clubs to seated exercises, we like to keep our residents physically active.

Favorite Games

There will always be a place for traditional games like bingo, dominoes, checkers, and backgammon. No matter cognitive skill, everyone can participate with dignity in these games of chance.

Outdoor Enjoyment

Many of our residents start to feel restless if they don’t get fresh air on a regular basis! We have many areas for outdoor enjoyment, including walking paths, benches and other seating areas made for interaction and engagement.

Intellectual Stimulation

It’s important for seniors to keep their minds active. From mental games, puzzles, discussion groups and classes, we provide regular opportunities to learn and grow.

Spiritual Engagement

Our onsite chaplain not only leads worship services, but also provides residents with weekly activities and one-on-one counseling.

Our goal is to keep all our residents active. If there is an activity of interest not currently on the calendar, we are happy to add it! We are a community that works together and this is no exception.

If it is time for a transition in care for your loved one, we hope you’ll consider the Christian Health Center in Louisville, a Christian Care community.
