At Christian Care Communities, meaningful partnerships help create opportunities for connection, joy, and fellowship for residents. At Chapel House and Friendship House, community members regularly share their time and talents through worship, fellowship, and special events that enrich daily life.
One such partnership with First Christian Church of Louisville recently brought residents together for a memorable Spring Fling celebration. This event represented more than a fun afternoon, it reflected a partnership rooted in a history spanning more than 140 years between First Christian Church of Louisville and Christian Care Communities (formerly Christian Church Homes). Nearly 50 years ago, Minary Sunday School classes were led by Elders of First Christian Church at Chapel and Friendship House, and today that tradition continues through the faithful leadership of First Christian Church and Beargrass Christian Church.

The idea for Spring Fling grew through conversations and relationships built over time. Larry Smith, a member of First Christian Church and Sunday school teacher at Christian Care Communities, learned from residents just how much they enjoyed the music of Don Watson. As it turns out, Larry and Don also play together in a band, creating the perfect opportunity to turn shared interests into a meaningful event.
More than two hundred of God’s most senior children enjoyed homemade favorites and picnic classics. First Christian Church of Louisville generously provided food and volunteers, while Christian Care supplied drinks and event essentials.
Volunteers and church Elders served food, tended grills, and assisted residents with mobility needs, ensuring everyone could fully participate in the celebration. Residents were also blessed by the presence and support of First Christian Church Elders, volunteers, and Reverend Amanda Wagoner-Meade.

The highlight of the afternoon was undoubtedly the music. Coordinated by Elder Larry Smith, The Brass Pack delivered one of the best performances we have hosted, filling the space with upbeat soul, rock, and funk favorites. Residents danced in their seats, and many on their feet, as smiles and laughter spread throughout the crowd. Even those serving food could not resist moving along to the music.
With a wonderful turnout and heartfelt appreciation shared by residents, the Spring Fling served as a joyful reminder that community partnerships and shared experiences create moments that truly matter.
